Attendance

Cravenwood Primary Academy aims to promote, among parents and children, a high level of awareness of the need for regular and prompt attendance. For a child to achieve the best of their ability, a high level of school attendance is essential. 

From the age of five, children are required by law to attend school for 190 days of the year, unless the child is ill or because of other extenuating circumstances. It is the parent’s duty to see the child is sent to school, arrives on time, in correct clothing and is in a condition to learn (e.g. not tired).

Please arrive at school on time. 

School starts at 8.18am. Registers are taken at 8.30am and close at 8.50am. Pupils arriving after 8.30am will be marked as late. Anyone arriving after 8.50am with no valid reason will be marked as an unauthorised absence.

If your child is going to be absent, please contact the school as early as possible. If your child is going to be absent due to an appointment, please provide the Academy with a medical card/letter so we can take a copy for school records. The Academy requires medical evidence of any absences your child may have.

Please be on time to collect your child. School finishes at 3.15pm Monday to Thursday and 1pm on Friday.

It is our responsibility:
•    to give attendance and punctuality a high priority;
•    to keep efficient and accurate records of attendance and timekeeping;
•    to contact families on the first day of absence where a pupil fails to attend and no explanation is given; and
•    to raise awareness of the importance of good attendance and punctuality through newsletters, parent meetings etc.

The law does not give any entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time. Any application for leave of absence will only be granted by the Head Teacher if there are exceptional circumstances that warrant granting leave. 

All requests for leave of absence for exceptional circumstances must be made in writing to the Head Teacher who will consider each individual case. Failure to attend school if the request is declined may result in a penalty notice being issued. Each penalty notice incurs a fine of £160 to be paid within 28 days, which is reduced to £80 if paid within 21 days of the notice being served. Failure to pay a penalty notice may result in further action being taken against you.
